You hear what you want or at least what you expect

Some TV show on TNT had people handing out things outside of my building on Wednesday.  This is far from unusual as I work right beside Government Center in Boston.  People are always handing out free stuff there.

What was beeing handed out were little silver pill boxes with the logo of the TV show on top with the words Feel the Rush.  I kindly thanked the girl as she handed me the box.  I swear I thought her say "free chocolate covered mints," the name of the show, and the Feel the Rush slogan as I was walking away.  I started peeling the tape off the can while I was going down the escalator to the subway.  By the time I was getting on my perfectly timed train, I was popping one of them in my mouth.

I bit down expecting Junior Mint type of mints but felt a crunch under my teeth.  At this point I noticed that the chocolate had a strong coffee flavoring.  I had not bitten into a solid mint as I had concluded at the crunch, some idiot had put a coffee been inside chocolate.  I fumble with the tin and flip it over.  On the bottom it says, chocolate covered expresso beans.

So, I am sitting on the train that is completely full with a crushed up expresso bean in my mouth.  Did I mention I can't stand coffee.  Love the smell, hate the taste.  There is no possible way that I can spit this thing out at this point.  anyway the damage is done and I have expresso bean crushed in my molars.  I did the only thing I knew to do.  I swallowed.  I didn't chew it anymore, I just swallowed.  I imagine it can be likened ot eating coffee grounds.

At this point, I still don't know how these things are supposed to be enjoyed.  do just spit the bean out,  are you supposed to chew up the bean, or are you just supposed to swallow the thing.  I don't want to know.

In hindsite, I should have known better.  The slogan was Feel the Rush, that morning the same people were out there handing out Ice Coffee, and most people were bypassing this person handing out the tins.  All warning signs, but in my defence, the tin was like a miniture altoid can and who has ever heard of chocolate covered expresso beans.

Ha -- i love coffee and I like chocolate, but I only had to have a chocolate-covered coffee bean ONCE to know that's not one of the great food combos! Sounds like you too!
