Broken Dreams- Poem

Broken Dreams

Life gives us lemons
We don't make lemonaide
Instead we suck on them
Faces puckered and afraid

We take what we are given
Never asking for more
Accept the job that is offered
Even though it may be a bore

We once had dreams
But they have gone  away
The memory of them causes
Us to die a little every day

We do what we have to
and not what we know
Instead of living life
We cease to grow

We Said Goodbye

We said goodbye long ago
not knowing it would be for so long
We parted ways, not looking back
Looking back, we were so wrong

Later when you came back
Nothing could be the same
We wrote and called and visited
and played the catch up game

I tried to forgive you every day
But you could never forgive you
You kept me at a distance, and
I kept myself at a distance too

Now you are gone and it's too late
We will never put the past behind
I understand why you did what you did
and in the end it was much more kind

We said goodbye six months ago
Not knowing it would be the last
We hung up, not looking back
and now our chance is past

Poem

Words

The word starts in jest and then bores its way into a deeper form
The metamorphosis is complete the moment that the word unwinds its way
From your lips and wiggles into another’s ear.
It feeds on insecurities and inadequacies until it has grown large and out of control
Now the word is bent and broken, each half growing into an autonomous unit
It slithers back between the lips with much harsher intent
Man’s mind, without fail, corrupts all.

Shame on me!

So, I tell my wife about the wonderful news of getting paid for my writing.  I asked her if she had read the essay and she looked at me and said, "you mean the one about the guy waving at you?"  I confirmed that was indeed the essay that was sold.  She confusedly looked at me and said, "I don't understand you.  Why are you moved by some stranger waving at you.  You have never written an essay about me, and I wash your clothes."

Point, Match, Game!

It isn't an essay, only a poem, but hopefuly it will do.

Domestic Goddess

Oh ye beautiful domestic goddess

Washer of clothes, raiser of kids

Without you my life would be a mess

And my finances on the skids

Thank you for your thankless work

Thank you for the things I do not see

I know that I can sometimes be jerk

So, thank you for putting up with me.

A Snake in the Grass

A Snake in the Grass

Tendencies sneak up on us like snakes in the grass.
Some of them are our own and we can see them coming,
But others are acquired by the people closest to us.
Those are the ones that actually end up biting us.
Not because we are not ever watchful sentries,
But because we atrophied in noticing in ourselves
that in which we come to expect from others around us.
The old saying is that “you are what you eat,”
But the truth is that you are what your friends serve you.
Before you anger at the snakes set loose on your lawn
Think first of the snakes that you are loosing yourself.

Haikus

Haikus

Spring
The leaves in full bloom
Flowers peaking at the Sun
A lawn mower starts

Serenity
Rise earnest mountain
Reach up and touch the soft clouds
Flower petals fall

Supernatural
Supernatural
Fighting ghosts with my brother
Not just spooky ones

Electric Sheep
Do androids even dream
Do they feel jubilation
Alive or soulless

Wolvie
I love Wolverine
Six sharp claws bringing chaos
Look into his eyes

Ender
Fight Ender Wiggin
Destroy all of the buggers
Sacrifice your soul

The Cost of Wind

The Cost of Wind

Sweet bird don’t fly away
Perch awhile and stay
You have chicks in you nest
You can show them best
Another wind blows
There she goes
She is gone, lost
Does she know the cost
The price that she paid
Is she just  afraid
Afraid of  feeling the pain
When the wind blows again
