Moonrise Kingdom

I would describe this movie as a whimsical romp that was amazingly refreshing.  I think it might help that I love scouting, but this is a hyperbolic parody of scouting, so everyone should enjoy it.

Broken down to its core, this movie is about love.  Innocent love, love lost, fraternal love, and a bit of forbidden love.  I have read that a lot of people are upset about the kissing scene between Sam and Suzy, but that felt very organic and was not inappropriate.  The movie was set in the 60's and I am from the 80's but kids swimming in their underwear was still something that happened when I was a kid and with adult supervision.  I have no doubts that it would have happened a couple of decades earlier with out supervision as well.  Like I said, it felt very organic.

I say this movie is fun for the whole family.  It is a quirky little thing, but the humor is there and I think kids will relate to Sam and Suzy.  As of the writing, this can be seen on HBO and HBO On Demand.

I knew from the moment I saw the trailer for this film that I had to see it. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of watching it, and it's one of those movies I could happily watch again.

I'll have to add it to my list.
